In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In Vitro Fertilization is a laboratory process where eggs are fertilized with sperm outside the body and the resulting embryos are transferred to the uterus. With some of the best IVF doctors in Pratiksha, the best IVF centre in Odisha, we strive to transform your dreams into reality.

Treatment Procedure

Pre-Treatment Investigations

Before exposing a couple to the IVF procedure they are advised to undergo certain investigations to check the convenience of the procedure. The female partner needs to undergo certain hormonal blood tests and the male partner undergoes basic semen analysis. Both partners are subjected to certain common tests like blood grouping, HIV, Hepatitis B & C, and blood tests for sexually transmitted diseases as part of the IVF process.

Long or Short Protocol

Following the pre-assessment, the next step could either be a long protocol or a short protocol. The doctor makes a decision regarding the course of treatment to be taken.
In the Long Protocol, the duration of the treatment is about one month and can be divided into two phases mainly:
Suppression Phase:
The female spouse must visit the hospital every day for subcutaneous injection for approximately 15 days, starting on day 22 of the cycle (Day 1 being the first day of the menstrual period).
Stimulation Phase:
A second round of injections is administered after roughly 15 days, stimulating the ovaries to generate eggs. Every day, these injections are given subcutaneously (SC) or intramuscularly (IM) (into the muscle of the buttock). The amount that is taken each day may be changed based on how effectively the ovaries are responding. Until the eggs reach maturity, stimulation is maintained. This takes 10 to 14 days typically.
On the other hand, the process followed under a short protocol typically takes 15 to 18 days, during which the female partner receives daily injections and medicines. Till the eggs are mature, this keeps happening.
Note: The success of the pregnancies depends especially on the timing of events during the IVF process. Patients are requested to have an ovarian ultrasound scan at the closest Pratiksha Clinic after the treatment cycle begins, often after Day 5.

Egg Collection

A date is set for egg collection and the female partner’s eggs are extracted using vaginal ultrasound guidance, based on the doctor’s assessment. The abdominal area is free of cuts.

Semen Preparation and Embryo Transfer

The male partner’s semen is taken and IVF (where eggs are just mixed with sperm) or ICSI (where single sperm is injected into the egg) is carried out in the laboratory. This is then inseminated into the female partner’s uterus.
